Film Archiving Workshop

The work of archiving films is a complex one. Are you interested in learning more about the preservation of film heritage or are you hoping to learn more about how to better manage a collection of materials under your charge? Then this course could be for you. No prior archiving working knowledge is required and the course is suitable for staff responsible for film heritage collections such as librarians, archivists, technicians, curators, and collections managers.

Using pre-programme site visits, seminars, and short film excerpts, this introductory programme will provide an overview on the fundamentals of what distinguishes a film archive from a library or museum. The course will delve into how moving image materials are identified for preservation, caring for these collections, developing appropriate handling and documentation procedures, and establishing policies for access to, and use of, the collections.
